No Surprises Act

Good Faith Estimate

The No Surprises Act, effective January 1, 2022, aims to protect consumers from surprise billing when receiving care from out-of-network providers.

Under the law, healthcare providers must give clients who don’t have insurance or are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical items and services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the total expected cost of non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your healthcare provider and any other provider you choose for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. Your healthcare provider can give you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item.

If you receive a bill of at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
